Trump called for people to boycott Apple until they hand over software to the FBI to access the San Bernardino attackers’ phone.
Donald Trump called on people to boycott Apple Friday over the company's refusal to create a backdoor that would help the FBI unlock an iPhone used by the San Bernardino terror attackers.
He then went on to say that the iPhone was "not even owned by this young thug that killed all these people." He said the phone was owned by the government.
"But Tim Cook is looking to do a big number, probably to show how liberal he is," Trump said. "We got to get to the bottom of it," he said referring to the investigation into the terror attack. "And you're not gonna get to the bottom of it until we use common sense. So I like the idea...boycott Apple until such time that they give that information."
BuzzFeed News has asked Trump's spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, whether he uses an iPhone and if his campaign staffers use Apple products and if so, if they will be expected to abandon the devices. In a Washington Post article from September 2015, Trump was spotted using an iPhone. In a New York Times article from October 2015, Trump was photographed with a Samsung.
